Sick Visits Q&A
Although you can sometimes remedy symptoms of an illness at home, the practice encourages you to bring your child in for a sick visit if they experience symptoms such as:
👉Vomiting or diarrhea
👉No tears, dry mouth, or not urinating
👉Persisting fever of 103° F or higher (100.4° F or higher for a baby under three months old)
👉Persistent cough or heartburn
👉Difficulty breathing
👉Rash
👉Severe headaches
👉Vision or hearing issues
👉Sore throat
👉Earache
Depending on the severity of your child's symptoms, your provider may encourage you to seek emergency care.
Sick visits can treat health issues, including:
👉Cough
👉Cold
👉Flu
👉Strep throat
👉Stomach pain
👉Headache
👉Fever
👉Rashes
👉Asthma attacks
👉Pneumonia
👉Minor cuts or scrapes
Fairway Children's Medical Group offers rapid strep, flu, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) tests so you can receive results quickly.
If your child has a more severe or chronic condition, the team can refer you to a specialist or hospital.
When you come in for a sick visit, your provider first checks your child's vitals, including their temperature, blood pressure, and pulse. They use a stethoscope to listen to their lungs and heart and detect any abnormalities.
If your provider isn't already familiar with your child's and your family's medical history, they may ask you a series of questions. You or your child should communicate with your provider about the symptoms they're experiencing and how long they've been going on.
Your provider may recommend taking an in-office blood or urine test to help determine the cause of their sickness.
Your provider's main goal is to give you the most immediate relief for your child's sickness or pain. Treatments may include medication like antibiotics, pain relievers, topical creams, or even lifestyle changes to alleviate symptoms, such as rest and hydration.
Once your provider diagnoses the illness at hand, they may recommend a more comprehensive treatment plan. Sometimes, a sick visit can detect, prevent, or treat a more chronic underlying condition.
If your child is suffering from an illness and experiencing discomfort, call Fairway Children's Medical Group or schedule an appointment online today.
